Merrill, Oregon is located near the south eastern base of Stukel Mountain in the rich agricultural Klamath Basin.  Merrill is 19 miles south of Klamath Falls and the southern side of the town lies next to Lost River. As of 2006 Merrill had a population of 893 residents. Elevation is 4,075 feet above sea level.

The town is the gateway to Southern Oregon homes on Highway 39 and is known to have some of the best farming ground in the Klamath Basin.  It is the southern gateway to Oregon on Highway 39 and is instantly recognized from the distance by the large American flag and tall water tower. Below is a community profile that gives you a preliminary look and feel of Merrill. Keep in mind that the state of Oregon has no sales tax. 
Merrill belongs to the Klamath County School District. Schools in the small town of Merrill include Merrill Elementary. This school is located on Second St and has about 150 students with grades K-6th grade.  Older children go to Lost River Jr/Sr High School with students in grades 7 - 12. Since winning Football's State Championship in 2004, the Raiders have steadily been climbing back to the top with the help of Coach Dennis Dunlea. Parents can make appointments with counselors or find out their students homework assinments online. Merrill is also has access to alternative schooling in the Falcon Heights Academy that presnetly holds about 90 students in grades K-12. Indian Camp Golf Course is quit close to Merrill in the Siskiyou County and the Klamath National Wildlife Rufuge. in Tulelake, CA It is a 9 hole course opened in 1982.

Merrill Oregon was named after Nathan Merrill, a settler who bought land from J. Frank Adams. The town was established in 1894 when Nathan Merrill donated 80 acres for the town site, and in 1903 Merrill was incorporated into Klamath County. J. Frank Adams and the Van Brimmer family are responsible for making Merrill the fertile agricultural land that it is today. They built irrigation canals in the late 1800s and early 1900s that brought life to the Merrill and Malin communities.

Today, Merrill real estate is still a family community of approximately 900 people, with many 2nd and 3rd generation families in the area. Merrill Oregon is known for its annual Klamath Basin Potato Festival which includes a parade, BBQ, festival and exhibits. The first festival was held in the fall of 1934 and is held annually in late October to celebrate the end of the harvesting season.

Merrill Oregon is also known for its large 30ft x 50ft American Flag. The memorial flag was a community project to remember the POWs and MIAs of all wars. The flag was envisioned as an expression of hometown patriotism and appreciation A reminder that America proudly cares and appreciates..Past, Present and Future!
